About the Soapmaker
Hello! I'm Nicolette, the proud owner of Soaphee. My journey began when I discovered a book on soapmaking at Barnes & Noble. I told myself that someday I would create my own soaps and build a small business. A few years later, amidst the global pandemic and the joy of welcoming my son, I experienced a drastic change as a first-time mom: sudden skin allergies. My sensitive skin became uncomfortable, especially in warm weather, and commercial soaps only exacerbated the issue. This led me to finally create my own soap recipe and launch my soap business.
I started by sharing my creations with family and friends, who quickly fell in love with them. A bit about my background—I am a chemist by profession. I graduated from the Philippines with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. My career began in an environmental testing laboratory, followed by a role at a public water utility laboratory where I tested potable water and wastewater. Due to my hard work, I was promoted to Field Services Manager.
Two years later, my family and I moved to the US, where I continued my chemistry career in the petroleum industry. My first job in the US was at a Petroleum Laboratory, analyzing samples from refineries and vessel tanks. Eager for further growth, I applied to two petroleum refineries in Southern California and received offer letters from both. I became a refinery chemist at a Fortune company, where I took on roles in troubleshooting instruments, training technicians, and leading the lab's quality control and assurance program.
However, as the responsibilities piled up and the challenges of being a first-time mom grew, I struggled to balance work and family life. Prioritizing my son and a role closer to home, I accepted a position at an electrical utility in Southern California. After two years, I made the decision to quit my job and focus full-time on soapmaking. My family and I then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, which we now call home.
I am excited to share my beautiful creations, crafted with high-quality ingredients and as close to nature as possible (except for sodium hydroxide, which is essential for saponifying the oils—without NaOH, we can't achieve a soap product). I am not new to soapmaking; in fact, I made my very first soap in junior high school for a chemistry project.
Please feel free to browse my listings, and I THANK YOU all for your support of my small business!
